    Top Weekend Getaways for Spring

    Top Weekend Getaways for Spring

Texas, the Lone Star State and one of the biggest states in the U.S., has hundreds of places to escape to and explore for a weekend.  You can stay close to home or you can travel to the other side of the state; no matter where you go, the options are endless.  Here is our list of top weekend getaways for spring.

Take a drive and go birding on the coast.  Southeast Texas offers some of the most beautiful scenic drives along the Texas coastline.  Spending the weekend driving the 500 mile Texas Birding Trail can be rewardingly peaceful.  The trail takes you past numerous bird colonies, lagoons, and salt marshes where waterfowl and migratory birds are in abundance.  You’ll also find numerous white sand beaches just begging to be explored.

If you need to get out and stretch your legs, there are plenty of hiking trails along the way.  When the time comes to stop for the night, there are two top rated campgrounds to choose from; Lagoons RV Resort in Rockport, TX and Pioneer Beach Resort in Port Aransas.  Pioneer Beach has a private beach boardwalk, full hookups, free cable and Wi-Fi and each campsite, a birding pond, laundry facilities, and a large recreation house for all to use.  Nearby Port Aransas offers island life shopping and dining for you to check out before you head out on the trail again.

Visit a state park.  There is a serene beauty that inhibits most state parks.  Enchanted Rock State Park is no different.  Head on over to Fredericksburg, TX for a weekend filled with cave exploring, hiking, rock climbing and much more.  Enchanted Rock is known for its mystical rock formations, including the infamous Dome that offers spectacular views of the Hill Country.  If you want to explore the wildlife that roams the area, check out the Peach Loop Drive.  It’s one of Texas’ great wildlife trails offering chance encounters with the different species in the area.

Camping in Enchanted Rock State Park includes basic and primitive sites.  There are 35 basic sites with picnic tables, fire rings, water, restrooms and showers.  The 20 primitive sites can be accessed after a 1.3 mile hike through rugged terrain.  Pets are allowed in the primitive sites so you can bring along your camping companion.  Make plans to explore the beautiful Enchanted Rock State Park on your next weekend getaway.

Stay at a top notch Resort and RV park.  Mill Creek Ranch Resort in Canton, TX is located just 60 miles east of Dallas and is one of the top RV resorts in Texas.  It makes up over 200 acres of rolling hills.  Many of the campsites are lakeside so you get direct access for fishing.  Grills, cement patios, tables and chairs are all provided at each site for your enjoyment.  RV’s have access to full hookups, clean showers and restrooms, and laundry facilities.

One of the reasons that this RV resort is so attractive to campers is across the street.  The First Monday Trade Days flea market is a highly sought out flea market in the area.  You’ll find a wide variety of unique home furnishings, antiques and collectibles.  Come stay at the nicest RV resort in Canton and take home some unique finds at the flea market.
