    Top Hiking Trails Around Houston

    Fall is the perfect time of year to be outdoors enjoying the beautiful weather and fall colors.  It’s hard to believe but that will be happening before we know it!  One of the best activities to partake in outside is hiking.  It can be relaxing and invigorating all at the same time.  Depending on if you are an avid hiker who likes challenging trails, or a casual hiker that likes to take things easy, there are plenty of great hiking trails in the Houston area.  Take a look at these top local hiking spots.

    1.The Anthills Trail at Terry Henshy Park- A top rated trail among hikers on This is a moderate, out and back trail that runs a total of 11.2 miles.  It offers beautiful scenery and tons of lush floral line the paths.  There are different trails that offer different levels of difficulty; the upper trails being the harder of the two.  Other than hiking, visitors can go birding, mountain biking, or running on these scenic trails through the park.

    2.The Memorial Park Trails- there are about 5 different trails that loops through Memorial Park.  From easy to advanced, most of the trails range about 1-2 miles in length.  Guests can pick from the Red, Blue, Yellow, Purple or Orange trail as outlined by the park’s map.  Guests say that these trails provide a great hike in the largest urban park in Texas.

    3.The Triangle Trail- Also located in Memorial Park, is 1.6 miles and loops around the area.  This is the hardest trail with its constant rolling hills and twists and turns.  The terrain is similar to those of a rugged road race, perfect for a mountain biking challenge.

    4.Buffalo Bayou Loop- Located within Buffalo Bayou Park, this is a 4.8 mile loops trail that has been rated as moderate in difficulty.  Guests can enjoy hiking or biking on these trails and get breathtaking views of the beautiful nature that resides just outside of the city limits. 

    5.Creekwood Lake Trail- Located within Brazos Bend State Park in Needville, TX which is just a short drive south west of Houston, Creekwood Lake Trail is a 3.3 mile trail that’s a challenge for most.  It takes you through the backcountry portion of the park and is great for hiking, biking, or horseback riding.  There are over 15 miles of loop trails located within Brazos Bend State Park, all ranging in difficulty and length and offer beautiful lakeside scenery.
