On the Road: The Best State Parks in Texas

Texas is one of the biggest states in the U.S. so it is no surprise that there are more than 90 state parks for you to choose from on your journey. Since that is quite a lot of options we have narrowed down the list to what we consider to be the very best in Texas.

    • Palo Duro Canyon State Park: Considered by many to be the Grand Canyon of Texas the park is the second largest canyon in the country. Located in the heart of the Panhandle the park has various campgrounds to set up for the night or three cabins right on the canyon rim that can be rented for your stay.
    • Enchanted Rock State Natural Area: The enchanted rock is a gigantic natural dome that rises above Central Texas. The 1,643-acre park draws countless visitors to its distinctive 500-foot-high dome of pink granite, the second largest such formation in North America. Designated a National Natural Landmark, Enchanted Rock is an impressive geological feature with an estimated age of one billion years.
    • Dinosaur Valley State Park: Walk the tracks of dinosaurs while taking in the beauty of Texas. Located just a short drive from Fort Worth, TX the park the dinosaur tracks are underwater but visible. Hiking/biking/equestrian trails are open for visitors during the spring as well.
    • Lost Maples State Natural Area: Lost Maples State Natural Area covers 2,174.2 scenic acres in Bandera and Real counties, north of Vanderpool on the Sabinal River. Approximately 200,000 people visit the park annually.
