One of the most overlooked State Parks in East Texas might also be one of the best! In this post we will feature the great Martin Dies, Jr. State Park and tell you the hot spots, where to camp and the activities you can do as well.

    What to Do?

Martin Dies, Jr. State Park is located in Jasper, Texas and features more than 700 acres of serene beauty. With tons of heavily wooded forests and an amazing lake, no matter what you and your crew want to do, you can find something at Martin Dies, Jr.

If you are more of the water type, you will find yourself in the right place! The park has seven boat ramps where you can launch, while also being one of the most beloved paddling destinations in the state. Even if you haven't gotten into paddling before, the park hosts paddling trips that are guided and vary in length. What a great time to get involved! As a disclaimer, we should probably tell you that alligators do exist in these waters. Being aware of your surroundings is key and if you do see an alligator, it is important to know how to react. Here are some quick tips for handling alligator sightings:

    - Keep Away at least 30 feet

    - Swim only in designated areas and only during the day

    - Keep an eye on your children at all times

    - Do not harass them

In addition to the paddling activities, boating and swimming are also available during the day. If you like to take in the forest and love to hike, Martin Dies, Jr. also has plenty of great hike and bike trails. You will get to experience amazing scenic forest views on the 8 miles of trails available. Stop from time to time and take in the wide variety of animals, trees, plants and plenty more beautiful sites.

Looking to do a little hunting or fishing? Martin Dies, Jr. State Park has that as well! They offer great fishing waters that feature catfish, bass, perch and more. For hunters, during duck season is a popular time to hit the park.

If you are looking to camp at the park, you have tons of great choices. If you are traveling with an RV, the park offers 50 amp and 30 amp sites with water and electricity. They also offer campsites with just water.

In addition to RV camping, the park also offers screen shelters, limited use cabins and shelters that feature air conditioning as well! If you want to scout out the campsite that works best for you, take a look at this great map with photos.
